Abstract:
The formation and purposes of the I.S.H.S. Working Group on Temperate Zone Fruits in the Tropics and Subtropics are reviewed, together with work in progress and plans for the future.
Projects underway include: a list of interested persons worldwide; an inventory of cultivars available in research plantings; monthly maximum/minimum temperatures and precipitation at selected locations where deciduous fruits are grown; a bibliography of published references; a symposium at the I.S.H.S. Congress in California in 1986; plans for cooperative evaluation of "standard" cultivars at various locations.
Possible cooperative research projects are discussed, as well as some of the problems which limit the Working Group's effectiveness.
