ISHS Acta Horticulturae 198: Symposium on the Timing of Field Production of Vegetables

INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE ON LENGTH OF THE GROWING PERIOD OF CAULIFLOWER

Author:   R. Booij
Abstract:
To analyse the variation in length of the growing period of cauliflower yearly eight transplantings were made over three years. The trials showed a correlation between the number of days from transplanting to harvesting and the date curd initiation had taken place. Late curd initiation resulted in late harvest. Curd initiation date was influenced by the number of days until the 19th leaf was initiated, and by the mean temperature from that date until curd initiation. High temperatures during that period delayed curd initiation. The consequences for harvest planning and continuous production of cauliflower are discussed.
