| Abstract:
In recent years a number of glasshouse holdings suffered from injury on chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.) by ethylene. The ethylene is produced by burners for CO2 enrichment that do not work properly. The most striking effect of ethylene is delayed flower bud formation. Air samples taken from glasshouses with injury often show ethylene concentrations of lower than 0.10 vpm. In an experiment during six weeks rooted chrysanthemum cuttings were fumigated with ethylene at concentrations of 0.00; 0.05; 0.10 and 0.20 vpm. A concentration of 0.05 vpm already gave a marked delay of flower bud formation and caused other typical ethylene symptoms. | |
