| Abstract:
With today's canned cling peach (or other canned fruits) there will be little chance for expansion in the near future. Market expansion is dependent on producing a quality product which will satisfy consumer's needs and desires. Our research effort should be oriented toward this objective. Total worldwide canned peach production has gone from close to 1 000 000 tons in 1980 to 830 000 tons in 1984. We can be projected to stay close to this level for the next few years, with little or no chance for expansion unless we innovate and thereby reverse the trends. There are eleven countries producing cling peaches commercially and consumption will decline faster than our ability to produce unless the consumer is given a quality product at a lower price or new products. The consumer wants, the consumer needs and the consumer must have new uses, if we are to increase worldwide consumption. The following will explore avenues to solve the problem. | |
