ISHS Acta Horticulturae 193: XIII International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

ETIOLOGY OF PEACH WILLOW LEAF ROSETTE

Authors:   G. Belli, A. Fortusini, P.A. Bianco
Abstract:
Peach willow-leaf rosette (PWR) is present in some areas of Northern Italy. Its etiology has been investigated through mechanical transmissions to herbaceous hosts, indexing on woody plants, electron microscopy and serology. Only strawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRV), and no other virus, has been constantly associated with the disease. Furthermore, mechanical inoculation to GF-305 seedlings with the PWR isolate of SLRV caused symptoms characteristic of PWR.

Therefore a virulent strain of SLRV is considered to be the etiological agent of peach willow-leaf rosette.
