Abstract:
Since 1965 surveys on the distribution of fruit tree viruses and virus-like disorders have been made, and the results have been presented during the international fruit tree virus symposia held through the years.
At the first survey (presented in Yugoslavia in 1965) based on reports from 19 European countries 84 diseases were recorded.
In 1973 when 26 European countries were participating the number of diseases rose to 120, and in the survey in 1985 - covering 35 countries from Europe and other continents - no less than 180 diseases were listed. 54 (= 30 pct.) of these diseases have been reported from 10 or more countries.
