PEACH YELLOWS. STUDY OF THE FACTORS IMPROVING ITS DETECTION IN THE GREENHOUSE

Authors:   D. Cornaggia, J.C. Desvignes
Abstract:
Peach yellows (PY) known 200 years ago in USA, was first noted in France in 1975. Detection in field takes a minimum of 3 years, in greenhouse on GF 305 peach seedlings 45 days. Its appearance in greenhouse can be enhanced by different factors :
  • virulence of the isolates and the quality of the substrate are of some importance,
  • rate of reaction is good immediately after the dormant stage, in the active growing period, from March to the end of May, if the inoculation has been done with young budsticks. Rate is poor or nil during the summer and after the leaves have fallen,
  • cool temperatures (10 to 15°C) and shading of the indicators do not improve their sensitiveness or the expression of the symptoms which consist in a marginal and fleeting chlorosis on the young leaves with a slight slowing of the growth.
