Abstract:
Chat fruit disease presents unusual problems in apple varieties that do not develop diagnostic symptoms.
Indexing requires fruiting trees of the indicator, Lord Lambourne; these may become infected by spread of the pathogen whose vector is not known.
The effect of chat fruit on Cox's Orange is of interest because this variety is widely grown in northern Europe, being the predominant dessert apple in England.
