ISHS Acta Horticulturae 193: XIII International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

THE EFFECT OF CHAT FRUIT ON COX'S ORANGE PIPPIN APPLE

Authors:   A.I. Campbell, T.R. Sparks
Abstract:
Chat fruit is a transmissible disease which causes severe reductions in the fruit size of some apple cultivars. In Cox's Orange Pippin no reduction in fruit size occurs but the ability of the flowers to set is seriously affected and yields are much reduced, Trees infected with chat fruit alone have the crop weight reduced by one third and if other latent viruses are present the yield is halved compared with healthy trees.
