Abstract:
Indexing with woody indicators stilt remains in many cases the most reliable method for detection and determination of fruit tree viruses.
Unfortunately, indexing in the field takes very much time (one to several years) and is therefore also expensive.
For several years, many trials of indexing in the greenhouse with woody indicators, under controlled temperatures, have been carried out in our Station, according to the method already published by Fridlund (1980) during the XIth International Symposium on fruit tree virus diseases (Budapest, 1979). The greenhouse temperatures were respectively 18, 22 and 26°C. The same indicators as in the field were used and other indicators were tested.
In some of the trials, an attempt was also made to detect a relationship between some viruses.
The following viruses have been tested : Chlorotic leaf spot, Spy epinasty and decline, Stem pitting, Stem grooving, Rubbery wood, Flat limb, Mosaïc, Vein yellow, Stony pit, European rusty mottle, Green ring mottle, Necrotic ring spot, Little cherry, Rasp leaf, Prune dwarf, Krikon necrose, Bark split, Line pattern mosaïc.
