ISHS Acta Horticulturae 193: XIII International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

OBTAINING PLUM VARIETIES FREE OF VIRUSES BY IN VITRO TECHNIQUE

Author:   M. Isac
Abstract:
In Romania, plum sp. represent 48% of the national fruit crop. Introduction of several new species is anticipate in the future.

Virus diseases appear to have a negative economic effect, showing a decreasing of trees vitality, a premature fall, poor fruit quality as well as non fertility phenomena and lack of graft compatibility.

Our research shows the interest and potentialities of meristem-tip culture and in vitro propagation in breeding new high valuable plum cvs. (Centenar, Carpatin and Silvia).
