Abstract:
Pear vein yellows (PVY) has significantly reduced the growth of 12 varieties of two years old pear trees between 13.4% and 69.7%. The infected pear trees were more sensitive to winter frost.
The contents of phosphorus, calcium, photoassimilatory pigments, free amino acids and nitrogen were lower in leaves, and the contents in starch and soluble sugar were higher in the leaves and shoots of infected pear trees.
Hydroxyproline has been detected only in infected twigs and probably it may be used as diagnostic test.
Electronmicroscopy analysis showed significant alterations of intracellular organells and large accumulation of starch and plastoqlobuli.
In diseased tissue rickettsia-like bacteria have been found.
