SELECTION AND MASS PRODUCTION OF APRICOT ROOTSTOCKS IN HUNGARY

Author:   F. Nyujtó
Abstract:
Selection of stone fruit began in 1953. In 1972 a virus-free seed stock orchard was established in 4.6 ha in Cegléd using wild apricot, myrobalan, plum, Prunus amygdalopersica and wild peach rootstock types of uniform performance. Trees bore fruit in 1979.

Since that time 5239 kg wild apricot /Prunus armeniaca L./, 2790 kg myrobalan /Pr. cerasifera var.myrobalana L./, 15288 kg Prunus amygdalopersica, 6677 kg wild peach /Pr. persica Batsch/ seeds were obtained. 1530000 wild apricot and 840000 myrobalan seedlings were grown and transferred to commercial nurseries. Registration of rootstock varieties is going on.
