APRICOT STANDS DRYING (APOPLEXY) PROTECTION METHOD

Abstract:
On the basis of our multi-year researches on apricot trees drying in stands we may conclude that the initial cause of drying is exposure of axial organs (trunks, and skeleton branches) to abrupt temperature variations during vegetation and dormant periods, and to low critical temperature in the winter period.

Under the action of these factors large and small cracks (wounds) are formed on the bark. Pathogenic microorganisms penetrate into plants through these wounds, and bring the plants to total necrosis. We have developed a method of tree protection, which results in sheltering of trunk and bases of skeleton branches by a heat-insulating material: pearlite-polymer-lime (PPL) suspension of thickness 1.5–2.0 mm.
