ISHS Acta Horticulturae 192: VIII International Symposium on Apricot Culture and Decline

SENSITIVITY OF SOME APRICOT VARIETIES TO THE ATTACK OF STEREUM PURPUREUM

Authors:   M. Trandafirescu, E. Topor
Abstract:
Extensive and increasing damage of Stereum purpureum attack, one of the pathogens-involved in apricot trees decline led to a study of the sensitivity to this disease during 1982–1984.

Six apricot varieties and hybrids promising for production were tested: Royal, Timpurii de Chisinau, Early Orange, Earliril, NJA 19 CR 2–63.

The testing was done by inoculation with spore suspension and mycelium inoculum. The infection induced by mycelium inoculum gave more evident symptoms than the spore suspension ones. We considered that the response to spore infection was weaker due to necessary time for spore germination and to the certain amount of spores on the wounds.

Irrespective of the source of inoculation those resistant to Stereum purpureum were: Early Orange, Earliril, NJA 19.
