Abstract:
Austria has its economically most important apricot growing areas in the Eastern part of the country (Lower Austria and Burgenland), where the climate is predominantly pannonic.
At present Austrian production cannot meet the demand for both freshly picked apricots and processing apricots.
In order to improve production, it is planned to use high-yield varieties on less well growing stock and to intensify care.
Currently, the varieties "Frühmarille aus Kittsee," "Ungarische Beste-Landersdorf," "Klosterneuburger-Mautern," "Nancy-Marille" and "Kecskemeter aus Mautern" are grown in the main production areas.
New foreign varieties are being tested.
