APFROS AS A POST FROST COMPOUND FOR APRICOT VARIETIES

Author:   D. Surányi
Abstract:
APFROS as a regenerating compound suitable for moderating the effect of late frosts was discovered by us between 1977 and 1981. This compound consists of four components in powder form.

The post-frost treatment can diminish frost damage in apricot trees. The positive effects were demonstrated in six cultivars of apricot, they were tested with three compounds. The "M"-type is not effective, the "G"-type is very effective, but very expensive, too. The "K"-type sprays are the most rewarding because there is 23.2% regenerational effect and the cost of the sprays is only equal to the price of 20 kg crops of apricot.

Success of APFROS-treatment ("K"-type) depends on the degree of cooling variety, rootstock and term between frost's and spray's date. This method is expanding in Hungarian apricot orchards.
