Abstract:
Only lysimeter permit a direct calculation of evapotranspiration, i.e. water consumption of crops in a certain soil and meterological condition.
All other methods are based on derivations from soil or climatic data, which can lead to considerable errors in calculating water requirements.
The use of a mobile lysimeter - e.g. with a surface of 0,2 to 1,0 square meter - permits flexible investigations in different locations and right in the field.
The lysimeter, thus, provides a standard in determing the effectiveness of different methods of irrigation control.
