ISHS Acta Horticulturae 190: Symposium on Tomato Production on Arid Land

GENOTYPIC VARIATION IN YIELD POTENTIAL AND FRUIT QUALITY OF FALL GROWN FRESH MARKET TOMATOES

Author:   H.H. Nassar
Abstract:
Ten fresh market tomato cultivars and F1 hybrid were evaluated in Fayoum, Egypt for yield potential and fruit quality during the fall season of 1981/82 and 1982/83. Data tabulated showed significant differences among cvs. for duration of the developmental phases, yields and fruit characteristics. These differences were due to genetic components. Both yield factors and physiological characteristics of the fruits must be regarded collectively. In general, none of the cultivars studied was better than either "Castlerock" or "UC 97–3" for earliness of cropping and potential productivity.
