Abstract:
Fruits harvested during ontogony from tomato plants exposed to short spells of stress (i.e. 500 ppm, 3000 ppm NaCl, waterlogging and drought) were examined for endogenous C2 H4 and endogenous IAA & ABA for the drought treatment only.
Growth pattern expressed either as fresh and/or dry weight showed a general decrease in the early stages for all treatments, these differences were diminshed in the later stages.
No major differences were observed, for endogenous C2 H4, between control and treatments except for drought and waterlogging in the early stages.
Endogenous IAA, in seeds of drought treated plants, showed a gradual increase over the control, while in the pericarp showed two maxima, for drought treatment and only one maxima between harvest two and three for the control.
A gradual increase was observed, for endogenous cis - ABA in seeds for drought treatment, between harvest four and five and differences were either diminished or became below the control level in the early stages, while in the pericarp, two maxima were obtained; the first maxima for drought was delayed for five days.
Results are discussed on the basis of possible hormonal interaction and changes in tissue sensitivity during development.
