ISHS Acta Horticulturae 190: Symposium on Tomato Production on Arid Land

EFFECT OF ANTITRANSPIRANTS AND LONG-CHAIN ALCOHOLS ON WATER USE EFFICIENCY AND GROWTH OF TOMATO PLANTS

Authors:   T. El Kobbia, A. Ibrahim
Abstract:
Three pot experiments were carried out to study the effect of foliar application of antitranspirants and soil application of long-chain alcohols on water use efficiency and growth of tomato plant. Both antitranspirants and long-chain alcohols increased water use efficiency, but the effect of antitranspirants was more pronounced. It was found that epoxylinseed oil and vapor gard each at a concentration of 2.5% alone or in combination with 0.002% hexadecanol could be used effectively for increasing water use efficiency without any adverse effect on growth of tomato plant.
