ISHS Acta Horticulturae 190: Symposium on Tomato Production on Arid Land

TOMATO CULTIVAR RESPONSE TO WATER AND SALT STRESS

Authors:   D. Lapushner, R. Frankel, Y. Fuchs
Abstract:
Response of 12 determinate fresh market tomato hybrid cultivars to pulsed water and salt stress after fruit set has been tested in open field production under desert conditions.

Cultivars differed in phenotypic stability and in their specific responses to pulsed stress in two plantings at a weekly interval.

Data suggest that response differentials to pulsed stress can be utilised for improvement of cultivar performance. Quality may be boosted without yield reduction.

To establish favorable general and specific responses to pulsed water and salt stress concurrent tests of breeding material under stress and normal conditions is indicated.
