ISHS Acta Horticulturae 190: Symposium on Tomato Production on Arid Land

EFFECT OF SILVER ION ON TOMATO FRUIT RIPENING, AND A NEW METHOD FOR TREATMENT (IN VIVO & VITRO) *)

Authors:   G.E. Hobson, M.A. Atta Aly
Abstract:
STS fed to tomato fruits through half of its peduncle while the other half still is attached to the plant during the mature green stage resulted in half red-half green fruits, while when it was fed at breaker stage the whole fruit turned red. Feeding STS directly through the pedicel of mature green tomato fruits in vitro resulted in maintaining the fruits green even after 50 ppm ethylene treatment. Results are discussed in relation to the possible effect of STS on blocking C2H4 action.
