Abstract:
Wageningen is a town in the heart of the Netherlands with a population of about 26,000. The multifarious activities undertaken there in the sphere of agriculture make it well worth a visit.
For Wageningen does not only possess an Agricultural University with 54 departments, but in the town itself and in the immediate vicinity there are also another 50 institutions and services operating in the field of agriculture.
To a Dutchman, however, the name "Wageningen" conjures up more than agricultural science.
It is firmly established in the annals of Dutch history as the place where the German Army after having occupied the Netherlands capitulated on May the 5th, 1945.
First something will be told about the Agricultural University, the only establishment in the Netherlands offering agricultural training at university level.
Then the other agricultural institutes which have sprung up around the University, but are not the part of it, in Wageningen and the surrounding districts, will be discussed.
Finally, something will be said about Wageningen‚s international links.
