ISHS Acta Horticulturae 189: I International Symposium of the Research and Cultivation of Roses

ROSE RESEARCH - CURRENT SITUATION AND FUTURE NEEDS

Author:   A. H. Halevy
Abstract:
Current research in rose physiology is reviewed, with special attention to areas in which knowledge is lacking and existing horticultural techniques are unsatisfactory. The following subjects are discussed: factors determining productivity and ways to increase flower production; environmental factors affecting productivity - light, temperature, humidity, CO2 - and possible interaction between them; energy saving by means of horticultural manipulations; breeding for better physiological and horticultural traits; root environment - media and rootstocks; postharvest physiology - future directions.
