Abstract:
Increasing concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3) increased the leaf area under long-day condition whereas shorter photoperiod caused a marked fall in the area of leaves, Shorter duration of illumination and milder concentrations of GA3 failed to induce flowering in mint plants.
The values for number of inflorescence per plant were found to be rainsed with rising concentrations of GA3. Number of stolen branches per plant was reduced under long-day condition and at all the concentrations of GA3. Contrariwise, shorter duration of illumination stimulated the production of stolon branches.
The values for ascrobic acid content were more in the growing apex under the inductive day-length conditions and increased GA3 concentrations.
The higher dose of gibberellic acid and longer day favoured more stimulation of essential oil content in the leaves.
Both GA3 and day-length conditions bear a great significance in controlling the growth, reproduction and metabolism of plants.
This may be attributed to the synergistic effects of the inductive photoperiod and the GA3 treatment.
