Abstract:
The International Society for Horticultural Science Working Group on Small Fruit Virus Diseases held its Fourth International Symposium at Bordeaux, France, on 14–15 June, 1985. The symposium was truly international, being attended by 43 delegates from 17 countries as far apart as Australia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, North America and Japan.
Following the precedent established at the three previous meetings, this one was arranged to take place immediately before the International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases and at the same location.
Opportunity was thus provided for those delegates who wished to do so to attend both meetings and to benefit from a wide range of scientific contacts.
The papers included in this Proceedings were presented on the first day of the Small Fruit Symposium and the second day was taken up with visits to centres of raspberry and strawberry production in S.W. France.
As always, the field trips provided a valuable opportunity for delegates to hold detailed discussions and to get to know each other personally.
It is this opportunity to make often deep and lasting personal friendships that makes these symposia of special value.
As Chairman of the Working Group I wish to express our thanks and acknowledge our gratitude to Dr Jean Dunez and his colleagues at INRA, Bordeaux, who bore the main brunt of organising this meeting.
Their contribution to its undoubted success was much appreciated.
