ISHS Acta Horticulturae 184: I International Symposium on Computer Modelling in Fruit Research and Orchard Management

SCAB CONTROL AND PEST MANAGEMENT

Authors:   C. Verheyden, P. Creemers
Abstract:
In Belgium, scab (Venturia sp.) represents one of the most important pests in fruit growing together with the leaf roller (Adoxophyes orana Hb.) on apple and the leaf sucker (Psylla piri) on pear. If for these animal pests a damage threshold can be tolerated without too much economical repercussion, this is absolutely not true for scab.

The situation in 1983, 1984 and 1985 was analyzed post factum on basis of climatological, phenological and biological data. Afterwards, some interpretative parameters were included into a theoretical model and the possibilities of combining fungicides with insecticides and acaricides were investigated in the frame of the spray-schedule against scab. Such a model resulted in an economy in man power and or rationalization of control schedules.
