Abstract:
"Cherry Grower" was written to generate and display graphically two years growth for terminal and spur growth of 'Montmorency' sour cherry.
Vegetative and reproductive growth are predicted from mathematical relationships between degree days (base 4°C) and leaf number and size for spur and terminal and fruit growth.
The program has two main functions, data generation and graphic display.
Variables considered are: degree days, number of nodes, % vegetative, flowering and blind nodes, and % fruit set.
The program has been converted to run on an IBM-XT with graphics capabilities.
What if questions can be asked and the appropriate answers generated.
Output is graphic or numeric.
Questions concerning leaf to fruit ratios, fruit weight per leaf area, and total leaf area can be simulated.
The program is useful to the researcher, in teaching, and could readily be adapted for other tree crops.
