ISHS Acta Horticulturae 183: IV International Rubus and Ribes Symposium

SEASONAL CHANGES OF PEROXIDASE ISOZYME IN SEVERAL RUBUS SPECIES

Authors:   N. Naruhashi, N. Masuda
Abstract:
Seasonal changes of peroxidase isozyme in several Rubus species by the use of gel-electrofocusing were investigated.

Zymograms of peroxidase isozyme generally varied depending on species and even leaf age on a cane. Changes in the number of isozyme bands depending on the leaf age were classified into 5 patterns. Seasonal changes of the zymograms were also observed. The patterns of seasonal change in isozyme bands showed similarity to the patterns depending on the leaf age. These patterns seem to relate to cane character (erect or creaping) and leaf character (evergreen, semi-evergreen, or deciduous). The maximum number of isozyme bands in most species was observed to occure in November. This fact seems to relate to cold-resistance of leaves in winter.
