DEVELOPMENT OF CURRANT PRODUCTION IN POLAND

Authors:   K. Smolarz, Z. Cianciara
Abstract:
The increasing demand for currant fruits and the introduction of modern technology caused constant rise of total currant production in Poland. New prolific cultivars, proper fertilizing, herbicides and pests and disease control are the main factors in this technology. But the major one was the introduction of fruit harvesters.

For big plantations /20–30 ha/ big self-powered machine, picking fruits from the whole row of bushes is recommended. For smaller ones /2–5 ha/ fruit harvester picking berries from the half of the row could be employed and for the smallest plantations /up to 1 ha/ hand operated shakers are available which speed up harvest time about 4 folds.
