RESPONSES OF RED RASPBERRY CULTIVARS AND SELECTIONS TO BOTRYTIS CINEREA INFECTION OF CANES

Author:   L. Kollányi
Abstract:
Artificial inoculation of canes with Botrytis cinerea was used for assessing raspberry cultivars and selections for resistance. Inoculation of canes in the field and cane sections in a moist chamber proved equally a usefull method. The resistance was assessed by development of lesion lenght during a two-week period after inoculation. In field experiments lesion lenght was measured in spring too. The size of lesions was larger on cane sections in the moist chamber than on intact canes in the field, but the difference between cultivars was similar. Strong resistance was found in Rubus coreanus and Rubus giraldianus species and in its derivatives. Red raspberry cultivar Latham also proved to be resistant. Malling Exploit was the most susceptible cultivar in every experiment.
