Abstract:
The maintenance of genetic resources is an important part of the National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS). Fruit crops are now a part of this program through the development of a series of repositories for clonally propagated crops.
The Corvallis Repository maintains a number of genera including Rubus and Ribes.
The repository program includes the collection of a broad genetic base of cultivars and wild species, the long term maintenance of seed and clonal accessions, the evaluation of the material including verification, characterization and some research, and the distribution of accessions for breeding and other research.
This work generates, and requires, extensive records which are now under development.
