| Abstract:
A brief historical account is given of the establishment of the Documentation Division in the Plant Genetic Resources Centre/Ethiopia (PGRC/E). Following the various tasks at hand in the genebank the sources of information are presented along with the type of data generated during these activities. The organisation of the Documentation Division, the different units (e.g.,germplasm accessioning and data acquisition; data compilation and preparation; data entry and correction; and data processing, retrieval and research) and their respective responsibilities are described. In the chapter on the organisation of the data management system the available hard- and software is presented and a detailed account is given of the make-up of the data bases containing all possible information. The various fields of application and use of the data bases are summarized. | |
