Abstract:
The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (Cultivated Code) recognizes in the field of cultivar registration statutory and nonstatutory registration authorities.
The first are established by legal enactment of a particular country or by legal agreement between countries.
The second is any organization or agency entrusted with registration by agreement of organizations interested.
To obtain an effective registration of cultivars both types of authorities have to work in such a close cooperation that they can accept in a mutual way their results.
This, however, is not always free of problems owing to the dissimilarity of their starting points.
