ISHS Acta Horticulturae 181: III International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamentals

EFFECT OF EXOGENOUS BACTERIAL CONCENTRATIONS ON WATER RELATIONS OF CUT ROSE FLOWERS II. BACTERIA IN THE VASE SOLUTION

Authors:   W.G. van Doorn, H.C.E.M. Buis, Y. de Witte
Abstract:
When a mixed population of bacteria was added to the vase solution, water uptake and transpiration of roses (var. Sonia) was reduced. The effect was only found at 107-108 bacteria per ml water, and higher concentrations.

At 3x109 bacteria per ml water the roses wilted within an hour. Bent neck was observed only at this high bacterial number.
