THE EFFECT OF RELATIVE HUMIDITY, LIGHT INTENSITY AND TEMPERATURE ON KEEPING QUALITY OF BEGONIA X CHEIMANTHA EVERETT.

Abstract:
Plants of Begonia x cheimantha 'Nova' were kept at 1) different temperatures (15, 18, 21 °C) and light conditions (natural light conditions with or without shading), and 2) at different light intensities (2500, 5000 and 10.000 lx) and relative humidities' (50 and 90 %) for the last three weeks of cultivation. The plants were then tested for keeping quality.

Increasing light intensities resulted in a better keepability and the plants developed more flowers and flower buds during the test period. Decreasing cultivation temperature gave more compact plants and a larger amount of flowers and flower buds were formed. High relative humidity promoted flower stem elongation.
