Abstract:
Formulas for standardized river and well type waters are given and evaluated giving similar results to river and well sourced tap waters.
Using the tap and standardized waters, the use of a preservative holding solution was more significant in extending rose flower life than the effect of any pretreatment.
Generally, use of a sugar-containing preservative as a pretreatment showed no detrimental effect compared to water or citric acid solutions.
The standardized waters reduce experimental variability, give comparable results to tap waters, and would generally be preferable to deionized or distilled water standards.
