| Abstract:
Four induced self-fertile clones of Cox's Orange Pippin were tested at two sites, LARS and EMRS, from 1980–1984. All four clones cropped well at LARS without the presence of pollinators. The self-fertile clones produced a greater number, and consequently smaller fruit than the standard EMLA clone. Fruit from all four clones was typical of normal Cox fruit. At EMRS three clones grew less strongly than the EMLA clone and produced more flowers in 1985. They also showed a higher initial fruit set in 1985 partly due to the greater number of flowers, but also to a greater ability of the flowers to set fruit. | |
