ISHS Acta Horticulturae 180: Workshop on Clonal Selection in Tree Fruit

SELECTION OF ROOTSTOCKS FROM DIFFERENT FORMS OF PRUNUS FRUTICOSA PALL

Authors:   Z.S. Grzyb, B. Zawadzka
Abstract:
Fifteen forms of P. fruticosa were investigated during three years with regard to their growth, fruit setting abilities, and production of root suckers. The health status in particular the virus infection as well as the ability of the soft-wood cuttings to root were also determined.

The differences in the height of trees ranged from 60 to 250 cm. Some of the plants bloomed but did not set fruits. Few of the trees produced root suckers, and some gave none. The soft-wood cuttings taken from the most dwarf types did not root. No trees were found, which would root well and did not form any root suckers.

Some of the trees appeared to be infected with Prunus necrotic ringspot virus.
