Abstract:
Intensive selection work in cultivars and rootstocks is an important factor for improving productivity of fruit trees.
It was demonstrated during the Symposium that selection of natural mutants or mutants obtained by mutation breeding has already brought promising results.
The importance of clonal selection in rootstocks has been underlined in papers presented during the meeting and in the extended discussions.
As it was agreed by the participants further work and close co-operation in the future will be needed.
It was a pleasure having the second Symposium at Bonn University and we are looking forward to meeting again at the third Symposium which will be held in Czechoslovakia in the first week of September, 1989.
We extend our gratitude to Dr.
A.I. Campbell, Long Ashton Research Station, for editing this volume.
