Abstract:
Paclobutrazol (PP333) treatments to the soil under trees or as foliar sprays generally inhibited vegetative growth of apple and peach trees of various ages.
Response was rate dependent over the range of 0 to 30 g ai/tree on apple.
Response on peach was non-linear over the range of 0 to 5 g ai/tree.
Fruit set was significantly increased on 4-year-old 'Golden Delicious' apple trees on M 7A rootstock treated at 5, 10 or 20 g ai/tree.
Bud break and full bloom were delayed 4 to 6 days in 1984 on trees treated in October 1982 at the 20 or 30 g rate.
The degree to which trees responded and the time required after treatment varied with method of application and tree age.
