ISHS Acta Horticulturae 179: V International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

EFFECT OF PUTRESCINE ON FRUITING PERFORMANCE OF APPLE (CV. HI EARLY)

Authors:   C. Costa, R. Biasi, N. Bagni
Abstract:
Putrescine was applied at the concentration of 10-4M at three different times of application (20% open flower, full bloom, petal fall) on cv Hi Early. Low concentrations combined with early application induce the best results. In general all the putrescine treatments increased fruit set and yield/tree. Putrescine increased fruit growth rate during the first phase of fruit growth but not thereafter.

At harvest, probably because of the higher yield of the trees sprayed with putrescine, fruit weight was lower than that of the control trees.

Return blooming of the trees sprayed with putrescine reached lower values than those of the control trees.
