ISHS Acta Horticulturae 179: V International Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

GROWTH REGULATOR EFFECTS ON SWEET CHERRY DEVELOPMENT AND BEARING

Authors:   N. Filiti, G. Cristoferi
Abstract:
Vigorous upright growth and the lack of desirable feathers in young sweet cherry constitute the major drawbacks to framework development and hence to early bearing. The absence of dwarfing rootstocks for this species has led researchers to concentrate their growth control efforts on chemical regulators.

Previous trials have shown that MB 25105 spray can reduce or retard leader shoot growth, induce bud break and promote useful feather development on sweet cherry (Cristoferi, 1981; Filiti, 1981).

The present study evaluated MB 25105 effects on early canopy bearing and the vegetative response of some vigorous and later initial-bearing varieties.
