VEGETATIVE GROWTH CONTROL AND FRUITING OF YOUNG PEAR TREES TREATED WITH CCC, SADH, PP333 (PACLOBUTRAZOL) AND A MIXTURE OF THESE COMPOUNDS WITH CEPA

Authors:   F. Jaumien, M. Wiktorowicz, B. Osinska
Abstract:
Young pear trees cv Clapp's Favourite/Pyrus caucasica and cv Beurre Hardy/QA were sprayed for three successive years with CCC, SADH or PP333 and a mixture of these chemicals with CEPA. CCC had the greatest, and SADH the least influence on the elongation growth of these cultivars. The influence of PP333 was intermediate between that of CCC and SADH. The concentration of the chemicals did not make any clear difference. CEPA increased the inhibition of growth, but not to the same extent every year.

The total yield of the first two years of bearing of cv Clapp's Favourite was highest on trees sprayed with CCC or SADH, but there was a clear tendency to biennal bearing. The total yield of trees sprayed with PP333 was about 100% higher than that of control trees. The total yield of cv Beurre Hardy in comparison with control was as follows: sprayed with CCC - 78–147% higher, sprayed with SADH - 35–78% higher, and sprayed with PP333 - 23–44% higher.
