Abstract:
Several Alar (daminozide, SADII or B9) sprays on sweet cherry cv. "Durone di Vignola I" grafted on Mazard were tried with the aim of controlling the growth and of inducing early bearing.
The orchard was established in 1970, and the first sprays were applied in 1971 and in 1972.
Effectiveness of the chemical varied according to the dose (1500–3000 ppm), time of spraying (15, 45 and 75 days after full bloom), number of sprays per year (1 or 2, spaced 30 days apart), and year of the first spray.
Among the 16 treatments three induced a higher productivity compared with the control: 1972–1–II–1500, 1972–2–II–1500, 1972–1-II–3000, where the first number is the year of the first spray, the second is the number of sprays, the third the time of spraying and the fourth is the dose.
No effect on tree height and a negative influence on fruit weight have been observed.
