Abstract:
Three carbaryl formulations achieved a consistent order of thinning when applied shortly after flowering to the same trees 1980–82, but apparent effectiveness as measured by fruit size was decreased by each formulation over this period.
Reduced spray volume and quantity of carbaryl did not result in proportional reduction of thinning effect.
Greater consistency of thinning was shown by formulations with small particle size and may indicate improved spray cover and more uniform uptake of carbaryl.
Thus improved effectiveness may be achieved through reduced particle size.
