Abstract:
Vertical plastic bag cultures of two climber ornamental pot plants Philodendron scandens subsp oxycardium and Cissus antarctica were conducted in order to evaluate growing media, climatic conditions and stomatal behavior effects on production and rootability of cuttings taken from mother plants.
Results show that bark-polystyrene-peat (2:1:2) (v/v/v) mixture produced a higher yield of cuttings.
Moreover there was also differences in yield of both species along the bag caused by vertical gradient of PPFD and waterlogged conditions in the bottom of the bag.
Waterlogged conditions probably caused an increase in rootability of cuttings taken from bottom half of the bags.
The technique has proved to be an adequate system and a more efficient means of greenhouse area utilization for the growth of some stock pot plants.
