LIMING OF PEAT FOR POT PLANT GROWING |

| Abstract:
Pot plants of Hedera helix and Exacum affine were grown in milled peat and peat from sods, both types limed with different kinds and quantities of lime. The results indicate that the fastest rooting and subsequent growth of Hedera from cuttings take place, when pH in the root zone is between 4 and 6. This pH range was obtained by adding 1 to 4 kg of ground limestone or dolomite lime per m3 of peat. In the case of Exacum the highest fresh and dry matter yields and the earliest flowering were obtained in a pH range of 5 to 6. Dolomite lime containing 0.2% Cu favoured plant growth compared to ground limestone and dolomite lime without Cu. That was due to inadequate Cu supply in the latter two instances, because basic fertilizer applications were not provided. | |
