Abstract:
Under certain conditions the tulip bulbs used for forcing may be severely damaged by mechanical harvest and handling during storage.
This may cause a high level attack of Penicillium resulting in bulb rot.
During the 2 year trials two compounds were compared to control Penicillium: iprodion at 0.15 and 0.3% concn. and tributyltinoxide at 0.02 and 0.05 concn. 5°C tulip bulbs were treated by dipping 30 min. prior to planting.
Significant differences were observed between 2 concns. used for both compounds tested.
Higher concentrations showed better control without any negative effect on tulip rooting and flowering.
Treated bulbs gave satisfactory flower yield compared to untreated.
